The Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment (themade.org) is powered by passionate volunteers who help us preserve video game history and inspire the next generation of creators. From expanding our game and book library, maintaining consoles, computers and arcade systems, teaching kids how to create and code, to organizing public events—there’s always meaningful work to be done.
Every year, we serve close to 10,000 visitors from around the world through all of our programming. Despite this impact, our total, all-inclusive budget is $300,000. This amounts to a total budget of $30 per visitor served, despite storing around 2000 square feet of playable video game history, educating hundreds of students every year, and serving almost a hundred field trips annually. Obviously, we are only able to make this impact through the support of our volunteers. From on the floor operations all the way to design, development, and communication, they allow us to punch way above our weight class and provide offerings that draw visitors from all around the world.
Our focus on playability introduces fascinating challenges that doesn’t arise in traditional exhibits. Work alongside passionate volunteers on them!
