The Atari 2600 is one of the first mass market video game consoles. It popularized microprocessor-based hardware and games stored on swappable ROM cartridges. It had an initial price of $190 (about $1000 in 2026) with more than 30 million sold.

Adventure is also notable for containing one of the first easter eggs in a video game.
