IBM PC Compatible Computer 1993

PCs of this era were general purpose business and home computers and were widely used to play games.  486 PC were popular during the transition from MS DOS (Microsoft Disk Operation System) to Windows. Many games ran faster and smoother on DOS so the transition took longer on home computers than on office machines where the advantages of Windows were more immediate.

The 1990s was a time of rapidly improving hardware. Technology that was top of the line, leading edge when released was available on lower end home machines within 2 years. While DOS games were produced from the initial release of the IBM PC in 1981 until at least 1995 (Windows 95 release), there is a huge difference in software release a year or two apart driven by the leaps in hardware capabilities.

This machine is currently running PC-DOS 5.0 and Windows 3.1
