Ladies and gentlemen, the MADE’s next video game storyboarding and writing class will take place on Sunday, October 13th and run every other Sunday from 11 to noon from there on in.

In short, the class won’t be held tomorrow, but will resume on Sunday, October 13th at 11 AM.

The first class, which took place on Sunday, August 18th, saw no less than half a dozen students come in, sit down and begin to learn to make their own text-based, story-driven video games that they could save and work on at home in their free time. Their games ideas, which were centered in a world where a knight had to fight a dragon and decide which actions to take, saw suggestions such as fighting the dragon with a sword, using magic spells, trying to bribe the dragon and trying to make the dragon sleep until it got tired and fell asleep…

Recent classes have brought even more people, students were able to build on top of what they’d learned in the first class and students are now learning to build inventory systems into their gams so you can choose which item or weapon to fight the rather large dragon that’s considering eating your character for brunch…

Once again, the class will be co-taught by developer Keith Nemitz and journalist Chris Barylick, the curriculum centering around creating a back story for video games, developing plot lines and creating decision trees. Students of all ages will learn plug their stories into a “Choose Your Own Adventure”-style framework to make their own decision-based games.

When: Sunday, October 13th, 11 AM.

Where: The MADE, 610 16th St, Suite 230, Oakland, CA.

Why: Because you write stories, your friends code and together, you can make some amazing video games.

Price: Absolutely, completely free.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Manuel Tovar (manuel@themade.org) or Chris Barylick (barylick@themade.org) and we’ll work to answer your questions immediately.
