HuskerGirlKC is the owner of the server on which we are building Oakland. She runs a friendly, child-safe environment for Minecraft players (read: naughty words are censored, and mean people aren’t tolerated). In this rich, creative playground, she has managed to coordinate a horde (And I do mean horde, up to 30 at a time) of Minecraft players into building Oakland. From scratch. Based, almost entirely, on Google Maps.
HuskerGirlKC, and her partner in architecture, HIDDENW0RM have begun a herculean task, with a deadline of 10 days. the final results will be displayed at the Oakland Museum of California
1111 Broadway. HuskerGirlKC, by entirely.
HIDDENW0RM, almost entirely.
If you aren’t from Oakland, you might not know that Fess, owner of the Oasis, died tragically about 6 months ago. His Oakland dance spot lives on, and it’s been imortalized in Minecraft!
A parking garage!? Yes, the one at 14th and Franklin, I believe.
Some garages are actually quite iconic! The Alameda County Parking Garage & Heliport! It was the Heliport that made them want to build it, I suspect.
Speaking of Iconic! This statue is outside of the Oakland Museum, where we will be showing this map off on April 26th, 5 – 8, and April 27, 28th, 1 – 3 !!!!
Did someone say “Downtown?”
Broadway and 12th St. City Hall was built by Jinx and with assistance by SuperEagle.
1111 Broadway and The Marriott, not yet complete. HuskerGirlKC did 1111. SnowDrift did the Marriott and Convention Center behind it.
AstroTheStickMan has taken on the enormous task of building Chinatown.
AT&T’s building on 17th and Franklin was constructed by HIDDENW0RM.
The Tribune Tower was constructed by NickNamer. I watched him, on day one, building the Tribune words obcessively, in the middle of a wilderness area overrun by creepers and spiders. He was worried because he only had 18 blocks width with which to spell the name. He knew this because HuskerGirlKC and HIDDENW0RM spent the first 2 days laying out the Oakland grid of streets in exacting scale.
Oakland City Hall was quite an endeavor. Jinx and SuperEagle had their work cut out for them.
Clorox Tower, as rendered by HuskerGirlKC. It took her about an hour or so.
Bl4ze says “Cheese!” Note the DJ equipment in the middle of the road.
Collin and SuperEagle worked on the Rotunda and surrounding Frank Ogawa Plaza.
12th St. Plaza.
HIDDENW0RM knocked these up in an hour or so. Copy. Mirror. Paste!
HuskerGirlKC and her team at work!
